2:50 pm - a new Redmond blogging community

Hey everyone :)

A couple colleagues and I have decided to start up a blog called The Redmond Blog. Basically, it's a blog "by, for, and about the people of Redmond" and we post on pretty much anything that is somehow related to the people or city of Redmond. We're looking for contributors (one-time and regular) and are hoping to generate dialogue between a variety of perspectives. Some perspectives we'd particularly like to hear from include local business owners, people who are "transplants" from other states/countries, and members of sub-cultures (religion, LGBT, racial groups, etc.).

You do not have to live in Redmond to contribute, we just ask that all posts relate somehow to Redmond.

If you would like to submit a post or become a regular contributor email us at theredmondblog@gmail.com!

9:36 am - Access GMail from School!

I embedded a basic GMail client into my site.

This will allow you to bypass the security that the school district put up, but the interface is very basic at best.

This client is intended ONLY to allow you to send/receive e-mails; it isn't intended to be some rebellious thing.

(Note- If you do want to continue using GMail and send/receive files, there is always the option to forward e-mails sent there to a different e-mail address, such as yahoo/hotmail. Just check the options)

[Note- Use at your own risk!]

11:42 am - Student and Youth Activist Conference

Several local organizations, including clubs from Seattle University and Seattle Central Community College, Action Northwest, USAS (United Students Against Sweatshops) and SEAC (Student Environmental Action Coalition) are organizing a Student and Youth Activist Conference the weekend of January 20-22 on the Seattle University campus.

We are in need of two things: One: We would like a band to play a short concert as an event for the conference. Is anyone here in a band, or have contacts with a band, that would be interested in playing?

Two: We need educated people willing to be speakers and panalists. Having a degree in or being associated with a group that deals with the topic on which you would like to speak is manditory. The conference is focused on "environmentalism and social justice", which basically covers anything activist-related.

If you are able and willing to help, either in these two ways or just as an interested citizen willing to advertise (we are also in need of "contacts" from other schools, such as UW, PLU, and SPU), please email warway24@gmail.com

9:39 pm - Concert Tickets

okay everyone so heres the deal... i was saveing two tickets for one of my friends on myspace, but she has not gotten back to me and the concert is in 4 days and i cant really wait any longer... so here is the the deal... i have two general admitance (also known as festival seating) tickets to the Rufus Wainwright / Ben Folds concert at the woodinville winery. The tickets are for the 26th of august (next week)and the tickets cost 30 dollars each, you can buy just one or both if youd like. let me know asap if you are interested in purchaseing these tickets so i can make sure i get them to you before the concert. ^_^ thanks

these tickets im selling are festival seating and you should bring like a picnic blanket to sit on...The tickets i have are much closer to the stage and have actual seating anyway... so i have these really good tickets up close, but im really only going to see rufus wainwright for the first half of the concert... so if any of you out there want to buy these tickets i could probably come find you and hang out for the second half of the concert... well anyway just an idea

2:15 pm - Just Joined; Questions about Sex Offender issue

Hi! I'm new to this community. My name is Rachel and I live on Squak Mt. I've lived in Issaquah for 10 years. I love the city and the community.

I was reading in the Seattle Times today about how Issaquah wants to make and ordinance to ban level 2 and 3 sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of any schools or daycares in the city. On Monday, at the next city council meeting, they will vote whether or not to pass this ordinance. I believe that it is unconstitutional to ban sex offenders from living in certain places. It infringes on their right to free movement.

What do you think? Any opinions?

current mood: curious
